About the Artist

Sheila Newmark is a native Angelino and worked in the Arts District with Master Printer Toby Michel beginning in the 80’s up until recent years. While working towards her MFA at Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, she discovered and developed her current process of painting using the technique of the press. Throughout the retrospective of her career, the element of creative momentum can be traced and felt in each piece. Having worked in all mediums, Sheila focused her work in oil painting, monotypes and mixed media. The core values and emotions of her work can be seen in the dynamic stimulations, vibrancy and boldness of each brushstroke. Sheila has had one person shows at: James Gray Gallery, Bergamot Station-Santa Monica in 2008 and 2010 and Metro Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles in 2014 and 2016. International group exhibitions include: Bankside Gallery – London, Seoul Korea Contemporary Prints Exhibition and the Belfast Northern Ireland Print Gallery.

Select pieces from Sheila’s Blues collection are currently on view at Bloomingdale’s in the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, CA.
